Spartans Come Up Short on the Road against Presbyterian
10/19/2019 10:19:00 PM | Men's Soccer
CLINTON, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's soccer team lost 3-1 on a cold and rainy night against Presbyterian College at Martin Stadium.
The weather played a large factor in the game as both teams struggled the move the ball up and down the field. In the first 20 minutes the two teams fought to a stalemate but Presbyterian broke through in the 20th minute with a goal by Riccardo Turcis. The Spartans offense did not attempt a shot in the opening half of play as they went into the break trailing 1-0.
Fifteen minutes into the second half the Spartans committed a foul and Presbyterian was awarded a penalty kick. Adrian Edo Martin converted on the kick and USC Upstate trailed 2-0 in the 60th minute of the game.
A few moments later Michael Chappelear connected with Aidan Hill and the Spartans were on the board for the first time in the game. Trailing by just a single goal the Spartans appeared to have the momentum on their side as they attempted to score the equalizer. However, in the 80th minute of the contest Sergio Pinto scored on a sliding shot and gave Presbyterian a 3-1 lead late in the game.
Despite a valiant attempt by the USC Upstate offense the clock ran out before their comeback could be complete.
