Spartanburg, S.C— The USC Upstate Men's soccer team will be at home to face off against the Wofford Terriers this Saturday night at County University Soccer Stadium.
The USC Upstate Spartans (4-10) and the Wofford Terriers (3-9-1) have a long history of Spartanburg showdowns. The Spartans and Terriers have matched 11 times in program history with Wofford leading the series with ten wins and one loss. The last time these two Spartanburg opponents met it resulted in a 1-2 loss for the Spartans back in 2018 at Wofford's stadium. The last time the Spartans and Terriers played at County University Soccer Stadium, the Spartans were able to record their first program victory over Wofford back in 2017.
The Spartans are coming off their best offensive performance of the season with a 3-2 win over Liberty University on Tuesday night. Javier Torres was unstoppable in the match, netting a pair of goals for the Spartans. These two goals scored by Torres tied Pascal Corvino for the most goals scored in a match this season. Aiden Hill was able to get in on the action by following up on a shot by Joel Bunting and putting the ball into the right side of the net. Pol Monells was also heavily involved in the Spartan attack by playing unselfish ball and recording two assists for the Spartans.
The Spartan defense stood firm again in this match by holding off Liberty from making a comeback. Luca Bulfon only had to record one save for the match as the Spartan defense held Liberty to only two shots on goal. USC Upstate will look to continue their dominating momentum in their upcoming matchup against Wofford.
Similar to USC Upstate, the Wofford Terriers are coming off a dominating win over Virginia Military Institute. The Terrier attack is led by Adrian Roseth, who has netted six goals for Wofford. Wofford likes to switch their goalkeepers up between Shane Berson and Grant Wollam. Berson has played over 800 minutes for the Terriers and has been able to record 27 total saves while Wollam has played nearly 400 minutes for the Terriers and has recorded 19 total saves. The Wofford Terriers are led by 1st-year head coach Joel Tyson.
The Spartans and Terriers will kick things off tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. at County University Soccer stadium. Links to the live stats and video stream of the game can be found at www.upstatespartans.com.
