Spartanburg, S.C.— The USC Upstate Men's soccer team will be on the road in North Carolina in a conference matchup against the Campbell Camels on Saturday, October 5th.
The USC Upstate Spartans (2-6, 0-1 BSC) and the Campbell Camels (7-2-1, 1-0 BSC) will face off for the fifth time in school history. The Camels lead the all-time series (4-0) with the most recent matchup between the Spartans and Camels resulting in a 1-7 loss for the Spartans back in 2018.
The Spartans are coming off their best game of the season after beating Coastal Carolina by a score of 1-0. This was the Spartan's first win on the road and Coastal Carolina's first home loss of the season. USC Upstate will look to make it two in a row against Campbell this weekend.
Mario Arrocha was the difference-maker in this 1-0 win over the Chanticleers. On the game-winning goal, Arrocha ran with the ball and passed it out wide to Javier Torres who then dribble inside of the box and give the ball back to Arrocha who then calmly beat the Coastal Carolina goalkeeper to put the Spartans up 1-0. Arrocha is now tied for first in points with Pascal Corvino with 4 points each.
The Spartan defense continued to stand strong as they shut down the Coastal Carolina attack. Felipe Baeza stood strong once again in goal by registering 4 saves and his second clean sheet of the season. Baeza now has totaled 15 saves this year.
Campbell is coming off their seventh win of the season after beating the Wofford Terriers 2-0. The top goal scorer for the Camels is Thibaut Jacquel who has 26 shots and has scored a total of 9 goals for the Camels this season. In goal for the Camels is Samuel Lechuga. Lechuga has 22 total saves and has a GAA of 0.68. The Camels are coached by Dustin Fonder in his fifth season as head coach.
