Spartanburg, S.C.— The USC Upstate men's soccer team will say farewell to four seniors on Saturday night when they host Winthrop University at County University Soccer Stadium.
The USC Upstate Spartans (5-10) and the Winthrop Eagles (4-9-2) will face off for the seventh time in program history. Winthrop leads the all-time series with 4 wins and 2 losses. The last time these two Big South opponents met, the Spartans beat the Eagles 4-3 in Rock Hill. Despite being down 2-4 in the series, the Spartans have never lost a home matchup against the Eagles.
The Spartans are coming off one of their best wins of the year after beating their inner-city rival.
Pascal Corvino was off to a fast start in this match by putting away an early goal in the first two minutes of the match. Corvino now averages .364 goals per game, which ranks seventh in the Big South conference.
Michael Chappelear and
Pol Monells were also got in on the scoring action by netting two goals for the Spartans.
The Eagles are coming off two straight ties against Georgia Southern and Presbyterian College. The Eagles are led by Marc Carreras, who has 5 goals on the season and Jordan Walshaw, who has recorded 7 assists for the Eagles.
Winthrop has used a trio of goalkeepers but is led by Sam Jones, who has recorded 39 saves and has a GAA of 1.91. The Winthrop Eagles are coached by Daniel Ridenhour in his 16th season at Winthrop.
The USC Upstate men's soccer team will be holding their senior night and will be honoring
Joel Bunting,
Ricky Maldonado,
Eirik Abney, and
Solomon Constant for their continuous hard work and commitment to USC Upstate. The senior night ceremony will start at 6:45 p.m. and conclude at 6:55 p.m.
