SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate volleyball team fell 3-1 on Friday night to Hampton University inside the G.B. Hodge Center.

Emily Russell led the Spartans attack with 18 kills and seven total blocks. Gloria Ikenegbu finished second on the team with 11 kills and Mikenzie Young-Mullins recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs. Mackenzie Marcum led the team with 25 digs and Annalisa Mendoza had a team high 47 assists.

USC Upstate (7-18, 4-9 BSC) had an overall better hitting percentage (.191) and reception percentage (.916) than Hampton (8-16, 3-10 BSC). The Spartans also out blocked their opponents 12-10 in the match. The Pirates were led offensively by Sasha Saric who ended the game with 15 kills. Sydney Summer recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 18 digs.

The match was tied on 30 different occasions and 14 lead changes accord over the course of the match. Half of the 14 lead changes came in the fourth and final set. The Spartans .314 hitting percentage was the highest of the night for either team.
