
Nolan Named to South African under 20 Women’s Team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Incoming freshman Kirsten Nolan out of Johannesburg, South Africa has been called up to the, South African U/20 Women's team for the upcoming U/20 COSAFA Championships. They will take place in Nelson Mandela Bay starting on August 1st through the 19th.
"We are very proud that Kirsten has been identified as a top striker and received the call to represent South Africa on the world stage," USC Upstate Women's Soccer coach Tyson John said. "It's one of the highest honors in all of sports."
Before signing with Upstate, Nolan played at St. Sithians Girls College, Crusaders Ladies Football Club, University of Johannesburg Ladies and Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies FC. In her time at St. Sithians, she led the team in goals from 2014-2017 and earned the title of captain during her junior and senior seasons. During her final year for St. Sithians, she scored 49 of the teams 82 goals over the course of the season, averaging 3.7 goals per contest in 13 total games.
In her club soccer career as a member of the U13A team, she scored 35 goals, and during her time playing for Open Ladies club team, she scored another 13. In 2015, she earned the top goal scorer award at the UJ Women's Day Tournament. While playing with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies FC, led the team with 36 goals over the course of the season.
Nolan was only 13 years old when she was awarded her first scholarship to the High-Performance Centre in South Africa for soccer. In high school she was the Head of House and was an honors recipient in 2017 and 2018. Nolan was named St. Stithians Girls College Sportswoman of the Year in 2018. Nolan also earned a Bronze award for the Heads writing competition and a Bronze award for community service.
