SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
The USC Upstate women's soccer team defeated Hampton 1-0 in a double overtime thriller on Saturday evening at County University Soccer Stadium.

In the 101st minute of the contest Mia Raiff (Dayton, Ohio) lined up for a free kick about 30-yards away from the goal. Raiff laced the ball into the 18-yard box, the crowd of 215 watched in anticipation as the ball glanced off the head of Stephanie Linton (Odessa, Fla.) into the back of the goal. Giving the Spartans their first conference win of the season.

"It feels great," Linton said. "We just kept working hard and we just kept going until we got one right."

USC Upstate (3-2-2, 1-0-0 BSC) now has a three game winning streak over Hampton (1-7-0, 0-1-0 BSC) dating back to the 2017 season. Throughout the majority of the game the two teams battled for every possession and selected different moments to strike. The teams combined for 11 shots in the first half and just four total shots in the second half. However, the Spartans appeared to kick it into another gear during the overtime periods as they outshot the Pirated 5-3.

"It's not about how pretty it is…it is about the result and good teams find a way to win." USC Upstate head coach Tyson John said. "I'm proud of us, this is our second win in a row…"

Emma Honis (Ocoee, Fla.) lead both sides with four total shots in the game. Jada Kinlaw (Greenville, S.C.) and Jayna Tyler (Brooksville, Fla.) tied for second on the team with two total shots on goal. Spartans starting goalkeeper Logan Pace (Belmont, N.C.) did not see much action as she recorded a season low one save in the match.

The Spartans now have back-to-back wins and their first win streak of the season after the victory today. USC Upstate will be looking to keep their winning momentum going into Wednesday night's matchup against UNC Asheville.
