SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's soccer team returns to the friendly confines of County University Soccer Stadium on Saturday evening against High Point University.
Over the past decade USC Upstate (2-3-3, 0-1-1 BSC) and High Point (2-6-1, 1-0-1 BSC) have only met on three different occasions. USC Upstate is 0-3 against High Point since moving up to the Division I level, however, this will be the first ever meeting on home turf for the Spartans. Last season, the Panther defeated the Spartans 4-1 in front of a crowd of 603 fans at Vert Stadium.
Montanna Hill (Mount Airy, N.C.) scored the lone goal for the Spartans last season.
The Spartans are coming off a heartbreaking loss to UNC Asheville in double-overtime. The Bulldogs scored in the 107
th minute of the game and handed USC Upstate their first conference loss of the season. The Spartans are hoping to erase the UNC Asheville game from memory as they were outshot 21-9 in the contest.
Logan Pace (Belmont, N.C.) has turned into a rock for the Spartans defense this season. The sophomore goalkeeper is showing no signs of a sophomore slump with 62 total saves this season and a pair of clean sheets to her name. The Tar Heel State native currently has a .873 save percentage in 790 minutes played.
On the offensive side of the ball seniors
Emma Honis (Ocoee, Fla.) and Hill have become quite the formidable duo. Honis leads the team in goals (3), shots (21) and shots on goal (6), while Hill leads the team in assists with two.
High Point is coming into Saturday's matchup with a bit of momentum. The Panthers defeated Campbell 1-0 behind a first half goal from Carsyn Gold. High Point outshot the Camels 12-10 in front of a crowd of 1100 fans on Wednesday evening.
Ashlyn Kearney and Kyle Levesque lead the offense with a pair of goals each. Levesque leads the Panthers with nine total shots and five shots on goal. Talia Klimes has stood strong in goal for High Point through the first nine games of the season. Klimes has recorded 45 saves in 814 minutes of game time this season.
