SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the second consecutive weekend the USC Upstate softball team will be hosting a three day tournament at Cyrill Stadium on the campus of USC Upstate.
 
This weekend the Spartans will welcome the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the University of Massachusetts, Oakland University and the University at Buffalo.
 
USC Upstate (4-1) went 2-1 in the first tournament of the season last weekend and they swept N.C. Central on Wednesday afternoon to improve to 4-1 on the season. Freshman Tiffany Domingue and Max Barnes currently lead the Spartan offense this season. Domingue is hitting .529 with nine hits and four RBI's against opponents this season. Barnes is batting .462 and is second on the team in total hits (6) and leads the team in RBI's with 7 on the season.
 
In the circle this season Erin Hill, Celina Sullivan and Mallie Brown have all had at least one quality outing this season. Hill has a starter's best 1.24 era and is second on the team in strikeouts with 15. Sullivan as pitched a team best 12.2 innings and has struck out a team high 17 batters on the season. Brown is 2-0 on the season in two appearances this season and opposing batters are hitting .182 against her.
 
The Spartans first opponent of the tournament is Maryland Eastern Shore. The Hawks are 0-5 this season and their top-hitter Kaylyn Sterling is batting .455 with a pair of RBI's to her name. USC Upstate's second game will be against UMass who has yet to play a game this season. The Spartans will also play Oakland and Buffalo this weekend. Buffalo is currently 2-3 on the young season.
