Volleyball's Kelly Wiedemann Earns Program's First CoSIDA Academic All-District Honor in the Program's D1 Era

GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the first time in the program's Division I era (2007-pres.), USC Upstate volleyball garnered a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District Team as senior outside hitter Kelly Wiedemann was bestowed the honor by the organization Thursday.

A native of West Plains, Mo., Wiedemann is the first CoSIDA Academic All-District selection for the Upstate volleyball program since Amber Glass (AAD Third Team) in 2004. She also joins Mario Arrocha of men's soccer as the two Spartans to earn Academic All-District honors during the 2021-22 academic year.

An exercise science major, she is a 2020-21 recipient of the Big South Commissioner's Award—awarded to Big South student-athletes with a 4.00 GPA—earning the distinction in her first season with the Spartans following a transfer from Missouri State West Plains. Wiedemann was one of 16 Upstate student-athletes to earn the Commissioner's Award last season.

On the court, Wiedemann was an Honorable Mention All-Big South selection after being the lone player in the conference with 250-plus kills and 250-plus digs, tallying 260 kills and 290 digs during the 2021 season. She also enters the postseason leading the Big South in total service aces, landing 39 on the season.
