SPARTANBURG, S.C.—Cora Brendle (Boiling Springs, SC) recorded 10 saves in her freshman debut against Longwood University in a 1-1 double overtime tie on Sunday afternoon at County University Soccer Stadium in their season opener.
The Spartans' offense did not take many shots in the first half all of them being saved by Longwood's goalie. Both teams went scoreless for the first twenty minutes. It was Alex Dinger of the Lancers who scored the first goal of the contest at 21:26.
The Spartans started the second half off to a slow start until
Raegan Meyer (Wake Forest, NC) scored her first career goal for the Spartans at 59:19. The set-piece goal tied the score at 1-1. The Lancers attempted two shots in hopes of taking the lead before the end of the second half. The score stayed tied until the end of regulation leading into overtime.
Neither USC Upstate or Longwood found the back of net in regulation and the two teams headed to overtime. In the first overtime,
Natalie Loyd (Wake Forest, NC) almost ended it with a goal off target. Brendle recorded four of her saves in the overtime period.
Upstate did not attempt any shots in the second overtime, while Brendle had four saves. No made goals in this overtime period resulted in the tied final score.

The Spartans were outshot by Longwood 25-7 and 13-3 in shots on goal during the match.
The Lancers recorded 2 corner kicks, while the Spartans had1.
