SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate junior pitcher Mallie Brown (Stockbridge, Ga.) became the 35^th player to record a no-hitter on Saturday afternoon, as the Spartans defeated South Carolina State 4-0 and then powered past East Tennessee State 6-1 in the night cap. USC Upstate finished the first day of the Wings ETC… Classic with an unblemished 2-0 record at Cyrill Stadium.
 
In the first game of the afternoon, Brown dominated in the circle as she struck out a career high 12 Bulldogs in the victory. This is the first solo no-hitter for Brown in her career at Upstate, last season Brown and Kasey Widmyer combined for no-hitter against Maryland Eastern Shore. The win improves Brown's record to 3-0 on the season and lowers her earned run average (ERA) to 0.74 on the season. The Peach State native was efficient in the circle using just 84 pitches to pick-up her second complete game of the season.
 
In game two of the afternoon, the Spartan offense came alive as they scored six runs off seven hits in the ballgame. Peyton Darnell (Fort Mill, S.C.) led the offense with a two-for-three day at the plate, but it was freshman outfielder Bre Cooper (Massillon, Ohio) who came away with a two-RBI knock late in the game to help the Spartans to victory.

Scoring Breakdown
Bottom 1^st: Sarah Price (Landrum, S.C.) began the inning with a seven-pitch walk and stole second moments later to move into scoring position. Savannah Grigsby (Elgin, S.C.) then walked, putting a pair of runners on for the Spartans with no outs in the inning. On a double steal attempt the S.C. State catcher threw the ball away and allowed Price to score, Grigsby advanced to third on the play. Tiffany Domingue (York, S.C.) singled through the right side of the infield and the Spartans had an early 2-0 advantage.
 
Bottom 4^th: With two-outs already in the inning, Madison Lanoux (Fleming Island, Fla.) singled through the left side of the infield to keep the inning alive. Lanoux advanced to third base after Cassie Norris (Powell, Tenn.) reached on a fielding error by South Carolina State. Norris stole second standing up and Marisa Soterakis (Miramar, Fla.) roped a two-run double to left center field.

Notables
Lanoux went 2-for-2 at the plate, with a run and a walk on the afternoon. Soterakis went 1-for-2 at the plate with a pair of RBI knocks. Domingue finished the day 1-for-1 with an RBI single.
 
Mallie Brown through a complete game no-hitter and struck out a career high 12 batters. Brown picked up her third win of the season in the process.

Game 2: USC Upstate 6, ETSU 1
 
Scoring Breakdown
Top 3^rd: Kelly Warren doubled down the left field line and scored Kasidy Dunn to break the scoreless tie.

Bottom 3^rd: With two-outs in the inning, Dezi Williams (Old Fort, N.C.) singled back to the pitcher to keep the inning alive. Moments later Price roped an RBI double to left field to tie the game at 1-1.
 
Bottom 4^th: Celeste Delorenzo (Ormond Beach, Fla.) walked to start the inning and moved over to second on a single by Darnell. Lanoux laid down the perfect sacrifice bunt as both runners moved into scoring position. Norris hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to give the Spartans the lead and Soterakis extended the lead with an RBI single to left field.
 
Bottom 6^th: Delorenzo and Darnell hit back-to-back singles to begin the inning, Norris then walked to load the bases with one out in the inning. An error by the Buccaneers pitcher allowed Delorenzo to score. Cooper then laced a two-run double into the left center field gap to extend the Spartans lead.

Darnell led the offense with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, Delorenzo went 1-for-2 with a pair of runs and Cooper went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI's to lead the team.
 
Savannah Brown pitched a complete game to pick-up her second win of the season. Brown struck out five and allowed just one run on the afternoon.
