Ones to Watch
Upstate

  • Jason Matthews leads the Spartans at the plate so far this year, batting .378 with six doubles (second-most in the conference) and 11 RBI (fourth-most in the conference). He has started all 10 games at shortstop and holds a .951 fielding percentage. Matthews also ranks second in the league with 17 hits and 14 runs scored.
  • Jack Gallagher is coming off a career-night at Clemson on Tuesday when he went 3-for-5 at the plate with seven RBI. He ripped a bases-clearing double to right center in the top of the second, driving in three runs to give Upstate an early 6-1 lead. He had no mercy on a new Clemson pitcher in the top of the ninth as he launched a moonshot over the wall in center field with bases loaded to put the Spartans up 12-2. Gallagher is batting .341 on the year with 15 hits (fourth-most in the conference), two doubles, a homer, and 18 RBI, which ranks second in the league.

Campbell

  • Spencer Packard leads the Camels and ranks third in the conference with a .419 batting average. He leads the league with seven doubles and has 13 hits with 11 RBI.
  • Matthew Christian ranks second on the team offensively, batting .378 with 14 hits, four home runs, and a league-best 19 RBI. His .811 slugging percentage ranks third in the league.

  • Head coach Mike McGuire is seven wins away from 400 in his career with an all-time record of 393-281. He currently holds a 23-5 record at Upstate.
  • Under Coach McGuire and his staff in the past two seasons, the Spartans are undefeated in midweek games (7-0) and against teams from the state of South Carolina (7-0).
