CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced today that USC Upstate freshman catcher Peyton Darnell (Fort Mill, S.C.) has been named Freshman of the Week for her efforts on the field this weekend.
 
Darnell batted .364 this weekend in sweep of Charleston Southern to open up Big South play. The freshman catcher recorded four total hits, with two doubles and a homerun against the Buccaneers. Darnell led the team with six RBI's, nine total bases and an .818 slugging percentage. The Palmetto State native also had a .364 on-base percentage and recorded 13 putouts and one assist in the field.

This is Darnell's second Big South Freshman of the week honor of her career.
 
UP next for the Spartans
The Spartans will host South Carolina Stats on Wednesday afternoon at Cyrill Stadium for a double header starting at 2:00 p.m.
