Jacksonville, Fla. – On the final day of the Jacksonville/North Florida Spring Break Challenge the USC Upstate softball team lost a pair of games to host Jacksonville University on Sunday afternoon.
Game 1: USC Upstate 2, Jacksonville 5
Scoring Breakdown
Bottom 2nd: Hannah Roberts hit a solo homerun to left center field to break the scoreless tie.
Top 4th: An infield hit by
Bre Cooper (Massillon, Ohio) led off the inning and she advanced to second on a passed ball.
Sarah Price (Landrum, S.C.) moved Cooper over to third on a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher.
Madison Lanoux (Fleming Island, Fla.) recorded an RBI ground out to tie the game at one.
Bottom 4th: Roberts singled up the middle and was pinch run for by Carolyn O'Neal, who stole second base. A one out single by Allison Bratek broke the tie and moments later Madison Kennedy hit a two-run homerun over the left center field fence.
Bottom 5th: With one out in the inning, Roberts doubled to center field and Abby Quinn came in to pinch run. Watson singled to left field and moved Quinn over to third. On a double steal attempt, Quinn came around to score.
Top 7th: The Spartans had a pair of players plunked to begin the inning. With two outs in the inning, freshman
Darbie Lisk (Hampstead, N.C.) recorded a pinch hit RBI single.
Notables
Bre Cooper went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Spartan offense.
Darbie Lisk went 1-for-1 with an RBI single.
Madison Lanoux picked up an RBI.
Game 2: USC Upstate 0, Jacksonville 8
Scoring Breakdown
Bottom 2nd: Samantha Poehlman homered to right center field to start the scoring for either team.
Bottom 3rd: Buss, Rodebaugh and Cross all picked up RBI's to extend the Dolphins lead to 4-0.
Bottom 6th: RBI knocks by Quinn and Bratek setup the walk-off run rule win for the Dolphins. Buss came through a two-RBI double to end the game for Jacksonville.
Notables
Cooper, Lanoux and Darnell all picked up hits in the loss.
UP next for the Spartans
The Spartans will have over a week off before they travel to Western Carolina next Monday for a doubleheader.
