Series History
Meeting in a non-conference match Tuesday, Upstate and South Carolina State are meeting for the eighth time in the Spartans' Division I era (2007-pres.). The Spartans lead the series 6-1 and have taken the last four matches in the series. The two programs last met in 2019 with Upstate taking the match in straight sets in Orangeburg, S.C.

Players to Watch
Upstate: Seniors, setter Allie Hamsher and outside hitter Kelly Wiedemann, each recorded back-to-back double-doubles against High Point and North Carolina A&T with each player doing so in consecutive matches for the second time this season. Fellow senior, libero Mackenzie Marcum joined the duo of Hamsher and Wiedemann to form a group that combined to land 19 service aces last weekend as each player tied career-highs with four aces landed against High Point.
 
South Carolina State: Outside hitter Maria Julia Vedovatto Loureiro is a focal point of South Carolina State's offense as she ranks fifth in the MEAC in attacks per set, averaging 9.80 attacks over her 30 sets this season. She's collected 66 total kills this season with a pair of double-digit kill matches this season while also adding a double-double in 2021.
 
Next UP for the Spartans
Following its final non-conference match of the season, Upstate hits the road for the first time in Big South Conference play, travelling to Hampton and Campbell. The Spartans face Hampton Friday at 6:00 p.m. ET before wrapping the road swing Saturday at Campbell at 2 p.m.
