How They Stack Up 

USC Upstate leads the Big South standings with a 5-1-0 record after downing the UNC Asheville Bulldogs 2-1 on Wednesday night. Campbell sits just below USC Upstate in the Big South standings with a 4-0-2 record after beating CSU 3-1 on Wednesday night. Here is how the Spartans and the Fighting Camels compare this season against Big South opponents:

Series History 
 

 
The Spartans and the Fighting Camels have a series dating back to 2008 where Upstate fell 3-1 on the road. Upstate has taken on Campbell eight times including three home matches and five road trips to Buies Creek, N.C. Most recently, Upstate hosted Campbell in October of the 2021 season but fell 2-0.  

Players to Watch 

Sydney Thomas and Ashley Finn both recorded their second goals of the season during the match with UNC Asheville. Thomas and Finn both sit second in the Spartans' rankings with two goals and five points respectively. Dara Russo still leads the Spartans with five goals, 10 points, 39 shots, 18 shots on goal, and three game winning goals. Cora Brendle has started all 13 games in the goal for Upstate; she had recorded four solo shutouts, one combined shutout, and 59 saves for a 0.843 save percentage and 0.86 goals against average.  

Russo sits in the Big South rankings for shots (4th), shots per game (3rd), goals (5th), and goals per game (4th). Brendle continues to lead the Big South for goals against average (.924) and save percentage, while still being ranked fifth for saves and saves per game and second for shutouts and shutouts per game. Upstate leads the conference for goals allowed (10), goals against average (0.83), and shutouts (5).  

Last Match   

Upstate most recently collected its fourth straight Big South conference win after downing the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville 2-1 on Wednesday night. Ashley Finn claimed the first goal of the game after picking off a pass from a Bulldog center back. Sydney Thomas capitalized with a one touch shot into the far post after Dara Russo collided with the Bulldog's keeper. Cora Brendle played the full 90 minutes and made six saves. Upstate outshot UNC Asheville 19-15 and had six corners compared to the Bulldogs' four. 

Campbell most recently beat Charleston Southern 3-1 in Charleston on Wednesday afternoon. CSU struck first, taking the lead in the 13th minute of the game. The Camels battled back to even the game at 1-1 before half with a goal from Jessica Donald. Jackie Richards and Laney Peabody put two more on the board in the 63rd and 73rd to give Campbell the win.
