Spartans to Honor Seniors vs High Point as Men's Soccer Hits Final Stretch

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – A lot on the line for a special Saturday night as your USC Upstate Spartans host the High Point Panthers for senior night.

The Spartans will honor three players, Luca Bulfon, Felipe Marty and Filippo Censini. Luca is having one of the best years for a Division-1 era Upstate goalkeeper and his 62 saves are currently leading the conference. Felipe Marty has had a career year, notching the first goal of his collegiate career this season against Presbyterian. Filippo Censini hasn't seen the field this year, but his veteran leadership and captaincy has the Spartans in position for a postseason push.

Speaking of that push, it starts Saturday as there are 6 teams solidly in contention for the 4 Big South tournament spots.

The current standings look like this:
1. High Point, 14 points, 2 games to go (at USC Upstate, vs Longwood)
2. Campbell, 13 points, 2 games to go (vs Presbyterian, at Gardner-Webb)
3. USC Upstate, 11 points, 2 games to go (vs High Point, at UNC Asheville)
4. Radford, 10 points, 1 game to go (vs UNC Asheville)
5. Gardner-Webb, 9 points, 2 games to go (at Longwood, vs Campbell)
6. Presbyterian, 8 points, 2 games to go (at Campbell, vs Winthrop)

There's a lot in play for the Spartans, with the possibilities ranging from a regular season championship, to being bounced from the top four altogether in the final week of the season.

Series History
There's no better time for Upstate to find their first win against High Point than now. The Panthers lead the series 6-0-1. The 1-1 tie came last year at High Point. Included in that series is Upstate's lone Big South championship appearance, which the Spartans would certainly like to avenge as the Big South race hits the final stretch.

Last Match
Upstate has enjoyed a bit of time off but their last match out was a 1-1 draw at Winthrop last Saturday. High Point took a 1-0 loss to Queen's University of Charlotte Wednesday night.

The Six Degrees
The two teams have played seven common opponents this year: Wofford, Coastal Carolina, Gardner-Webb, Winthrop, Radford, Presbyterian, and Campbell. Upstate is 3-2-2 in those matches, with a score differential of 13-14. High Point went 4-1-2 in that same stretch, scoring 14 goals to the opponent's 6. Upstate's wins came against Wofford (4-2), Presbyterian (5-3), and Gardner-Webb (2-1), while High Point found wins against Coastal Carolina (2-1), Winthrop (4-1), Radford (5-1), and Campbell (1-0).

Players to Watch
It'll be senior night, so keep an eye on seniors Luca Bulfon and Felipe Marty. The two will want to leave a mark on their special night. Kasper Jorgensen has been an incredibly impressive piece of the Upstate defense, as the freshman has started in every match so far this season. Andrin Zumbuhl and Jeremy Montero will need to create some offense for the Spartans to find the win.
