Spartanburg, S.C. – The Upstate Spartans continued their success through day two of the Upstate Classic, beating Northern Kentucky 4-1.
Upstate went into the game with a 6-0 record and looked to beat NKU as they did the day prior. The Norse scored first, earning one run in the top of the sixth inning. Casey Goguts hit a double to put Upstate on the board and ahead by one run. The Spartans finished the sixth inning with another two runs. Alyssa Kelly threw 101 pitches across seven innings for Upstate, surrendering one run, eight hits, and recording nine strikeouts.

How It Happened

T6: Kendyl McKeough advanced to second base off a wild pitch after reaching first off a single up the middle. McKeough advanced to third after Tatum Middle hit a single up the middle and was sent home due to an error by the Upstate catcher.

B6: Casey Goguts responded to the Norse scoring by hitting a double down the left field line, advancing Madison Lanoux and Sarah Price home to give Upstate the 2-1 lead.

B6: Domingue was sent home off a single up the middle from Celeste Delorenzo making the score 4-1 in favor of the Spartans.
