Spartanburg, S.C. – Upstate softball split day two of the Wings Etc. Classic with a 2-1 loss to Pitt University in eight innings and a 7-0 win over Cleveland State, making their season record 12-1.
USC Upstate played seven innings of nearly deadlocked softball against Pitt to start the day. Upstate went into extra innings with three hits while Pitt had two. Pitt was able to score two runs in the top of the eighth. Upstate responded with a run from Caroline Jacquay to get on the board but fell short of the win. Hannah Houge threw 109 pitches across 8.0 innings surrendering five hits and two runs and recording seven strikeouts.
Looking to bounce back, the Spartans came out swinging against CSU scoring all of their runs in the first three innings. Denver Lauer had two in the match while five additional Spartans contributed runs. Alyssa Kelly pitched 7.0 innings allowing only one hit and no runs along with seven strikeouts.

T8: Katlyn Pavlick pinch hit for Kylie Griggs in the top of the eighth and hit a homerun to left center, sending home Kaitlyn Burdick who was waiting at third.

B8: Pinch running for Denver Lauer, Caroline Jacquay was able to round home off of a single up the middle from Sarah Price.

B1: Celeste Delorenzo scored the first run of the game off a Cleveland State wild pitch.

B1: Madison Lanoux was able to steal home as Casey Goguts was called out off a fly ball to left center.

B2: Marisa Stoterakis hit a sacrificed bunt to advance Sarah Price to third as well as send Denver Lauer home making the score 3-0 Upstate.

B2: Price had enough time to score a run as Soterakis hit a double to right center.

B3: Lauer was able to reach first base due to an error from the CSU shortstop which also resulted in runs for Emily Dixon and Liza Summerson.

B3: Price reached first base, allowing Lauer to make a run home making the game 7-0, but was tagged out on second.
