Cameron MacIntosh's Two Homer, Eight RBI Game Highlights Record-Setting Afternoon and 20-7 Victory over Northern Kentucky for Baseball Friday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Seeking to snap a four-game losing streak to Northern Kentucky and open a three-game series with a victory, USC Upstate baseball's bats came alive Friday night as the Spartans picked up their second 20-run outing of the season with a 20-7 series-opening rout of Northern Kentucky at Cleveland S. Harley Park.

Behind the power of his first career multi-homer game, senior second baseman Cameron MacIntosh tallied a program-record eight runs batted on Friday night. He opened the game's scoring with a two-run double before hitting a three-run homer, sacrifice fly, and two-run home run, doing so in the first four innings of the game.

Adding to MacIntosh's eight RBI, freshman shortstop Cole Caruso doubled his RBI total heading into the game behind a 3-for-3, four RBI afternoon in which he reached base in all five plate appearances. After being hit by a pitch and drawing a walk, he collected RBI singles in three straight at-bats.

On the mound, senior right-hander Jacob Curry secured his longest turn as the Spartans' starting pitcher, turning in 5.2 innings of work to collect his first victory in a Spartan uniform.

The biggest hit of the came as Cole Caruso singled through the right side to plate two ahead of an RBI single from Jack Hennessy to finish the Spartans' first five-run inning.
  • B4: Stringing together four straight innings with multiple runs scored, Upstate tacked on five additional tallies in the fourth. Notable
  • Behind a career-high eight runs batted in, Cameron MacIntosh set a program record for single-game RBI Friday night. His total bests the three known seven RBI games—most recently Jack Gallagher versus Clemson on March 9, 2021.
  • Scoring 20 or more runs for the second time this season, Upstate ensured the 2022 season as the program's first in the Division I era (2007-pres.) to see multiple 20-run games by the Spartan offense.
  • Scoring seven runs in the second and five in each the third and fourth, the Spartans tallied their seventh, eighth, and ninth innings this season with five or more runs scored. Friday's game's three five-plus run innings marked the most for a single game this season.
