SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Capping off a string of seven of eight games against teams from the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area and starting a five-game week, USC Upstate baseball picked up a huge home victory Monday afternoon, downing Cincinnati of the American Athletic Conference 8-3 at Cleveland S. Al Holguin combined to allow just six hits and three runs (one earned) in the game.
Miller secured his first win of 2022, tossing 5.2 innings while collecting five strikeouts while Matheny and Holguin pitched 3.1 innings allowing just one hit. Earning his first career save in just his second career outing, Holguin recorded six of his eight outs with a strikeout.
At the plate, freshman designated hitter
Noah Sullivan and senior catcher
Damon Maynard each produced a multi-RBI game, their fifth and first, respectively, of the season. Freshman shortstop
Cole Caruso racked up his fifth multi-hit effort of the year, finishing 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.
