Spartans Fall 6-3 to Campbell on Sunday Morning But Take the Three Game Series

Spartanburg, S.C. – Upstate takes the series against Campbell 2-1, despite falling 6-3 on Sunday morning. USC Upstate improves their record this weekend to 24-3, 4-2 in the Big South.  
   

Game three went scoreless through the first three innings until Tiffany Domingue hit a home run, followed by Casey Goguts stealing home in the fourth. The Camels were able to tie the game in the top of the fifth with a home run and took the lead in the top of the sixth. Campbell extended their lead in the seventh inning as Upstate would bat their final inning trailing by four runs. The Spartans attempted to battle back, scoring one more run in the seventh but were unable to come back to take the win. Hannah Houge threw 100 pitches across 7.0 innings, surrendering six hits and six runs, recording no walks and nine strikeouts.

How It Happened             

  • B4: Tiffany Domingue hit a home run to left center to put Upstate on the board in the bottom of the fourth.  

  • B4: Casey Goguts stole home and extend Uspate's lead to two runs. 

  • T5: Delaney McDilda got Campbell on the board in similar fashion to Upstate's first run with a home run to left center. 

  • T6: The Camels took the lead as Kayla Fredendall homered to center, also bringing Erin Rafferty and Claudia Ware home.  

  • T7: Whiteley advanced home on a wild pitch from Upstate making the score 5-2. 

  • T7: Danielle Northrup offered a sac bunt to advance Savannah White home.  

  • B7: Upstate looked to battle back in the bottom of the seventh as Madison Lanoux came home on a single from Summer Johnson. 

    
Notable             

  • Tiffany Domingue recorded her second home run of the season; her first was at the Stetson Invitational against Stetson (3/5/22) 

  • Hannah Houge recorded her fourth game with 100 of more pitches recorded 

  • Houge has struck out eight or more in eight games, including four straight games
