SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Snapping a six-game losing skid, USC Upstate baseball's starting pitcher
Jacob Curry offered a Greg Maddux-esque outing in helping the Spartans end their slide as he pitched a complete-game shutout, leading Upstate to an 8-0 series-opening victory over Charleston Southern Thursday night.
Allowing just four hits and one runner in scoring position, the right-handed senior put together another career outing, doing so in consecutive home starts. His first career complete game came on just 94 pitches as allowed just six baserunners, surrendering four hits and two hit-by-pitch while tying a career-high with six strikeouts. Of the five baserunners allowed by Curry, only one advanced into scoring position as three were erased on double plays permitting him to face two batters over the minimum on the night.
Backing Curry, the Upstate offense broke out for eight runs Thursday night, scoring once in the second and fourth before adding three runs in each the fifth and sixth. At the plate, senior catcher
Devin Buckner (12
th), freshman designated hitter
Noah Sullivan (16
th), and redshirt sophomore leftfielder
Noah Rabon (10
th) all recorded multi-hit games with Rabon (11
th), redshirt sophomore shortstop
Troy Hamilton (2
nd), and redshirt junior first baseman
Adam Grob (2
nd) each produced multi-RBI games.

Notable
- Using just 94 pitches, Jacob Curry tossed his first career complete-game shutout, surrendering just six baserunners and facing two batters over the minimum. His complete-game shutout marks the first by a Spartan since Jordan Marks against Charleston Southern on April 16, 2021.
- Backing Curry, the Spartans' infield turned three double plays, doing so to preserve clean frames in the first, seventh, and eighth innings. Thursday's game marked the first since February 20 against Ohio to see Upstate turn three twin killings.
- On the basepaths, Upstate swiped five bags Thursday against Charleston Southern as Noah Myers, Noah Sullivan, Cameron MacIntosh, Noah Rabon, and Jack Hennessy each stole a base. The game joins the Radford game on March 25 as the two games to see the Spartans steal five bags with Thursday's total pushing the team to 51 stolen bases on the season.
