Upstate Surpasses 40 Wins on the Season With Three Home Runs from Johnson and Houge's 13th Shutout

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Upstate concluded the three-game series with Charleston Southern with a doubleheader sweep in 12.0 total innings to become the first Division One school in the country to record 40 wins this season.

Looking to bounce back from game one on Friday, Upstate wasted little time getting on the board in game two of the series. Tiffany Domingue started the game off with a triple to send Celeste Delorenzo home and came home shortly after when Summer Johnson hit her first home run of the day. Domingue made the game 5-0 by the top of the fourth after hitting a home run in the bottom of the third. Charleston Southern attempted to battle back, posting one run in the top of the fourth and fifth innings. Johnson extended Upstate's lead in the bottom of the fifth with her second home run of the game while Alanna Deal ended the game with a walk-off home run. Alyssa Kelly pitched 6.0 innings and had four strikeouts to earn her 15th win of the season.

With their 40th win of the season secured, the Spartans looked to execute another win in game three to take the series. Johnson set the tone of the game by scoring her third home run of the day in the bottom of the second inning. She used her next at-bat in the bottom of the third to hit a single up the middle to send Delorenzo home. Domingue and Johnson posted two more runs for Upstate in the bottom of the third and Madison Lanoux would finish the bottom of the third scoring on a sacrifice fly from Peyton Darnell. Alanna Deal made the game 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth off a double from Casey Goguts. Tiffany Domingue finished the series with a walk-off home run over right-center. Hannah Houge resumed the mound for game three; she pitched 6.0 innings and had six strikeouts.
