FARMVILLE, Va. – USC Upstate softball concluded its 29th season under head coach Chris Hawkins on Friday afternoon after falling 5-0 in the fourth elimination in the Big South Softball Championship. The Spartans had a historic season setting a new program high for wins in a single season (48) as well as earning their first Big South Regular Season Championship, Big South Player of the Year, and Big South Coach of the Year while chasing their first Big South Conference Championship.
Upstate went toe to toe with Longwood for the first two innings. Alyssa Kelly started in the circle for Upstate after closing out the game with Campbell on Thursday night. Longwood posted two runs in the top of the third and were held at two by the Upstate defense through the fourth inning after Adison Yoder relieved Kelly. Yoder threw 1.2 innings in an attempt to keep the Lancers at bay. Longwood would put two more on the board in the top of the fifth which brought Hannah Houge to the circle. Houge threw the remaining 2.2 innings of the game where she surrendered one run and three strikeouts.
