Home Stint Continues for the Spartans as the Hampton Pirates Come to County University Soccer Stadium for Tuesday Match Up

Series History  
Upstate and Hampton have a match series dating back to 2017 when the Spartans beat the Pirates 4-2 at home. The Spartans go into the match with a 3-0-1 record overall against the Pirates and have scored nine goals in the match series as opposed to Hampton's two. Hampton most recently visit County University Soccer Stadium during October of the 2021 season when Upstate took the 2-0 win to close out the season.  

Players to Watch 

Cora Brendle started the last two games and played 180 minutes as the Spartans' goalkeeper. Brendle was able to earn her first shutout of the season against App State on Sunday evening and finished the week with 11 saves. Senior Alaina McKnight has been holding down Upstate's defensive line with freshman Emily Rangel who has seen significant time in the last two games. On offense for the Spartans, freshmen Dara Russo and Sydney Thomas have worked their way into the starting lineup while returner Ellie Arnold and transfer Nya Baccelli had three shots each this week.  

Last Match   

The Spartans most recently took the field against Appalachian State for a Sunday evening game at County University Soccer Stadium. After 90 minutes of a back-and-forth battle, the final while blew on a 0-0 game. Upstate's overall record shifts to 0-0-2 giving the Spartans one of their best starts to the season since 2013.  

Hampton most recently played the University of Mount Olive in an exhibition match on Friday in Mount Olive, N.C.  

   
 
UP Next for the Spartans  
Upstate will finish out its home stint with ETSU, Sun. August 28. Following the four-game home series, Upstate will then hit the road to play The Citadel in Charleston on Friday, Sept. 2. The Spartans will remain on the road to play Furman Thur. September 8 in Greenville, S.C.
