Series History
USC Upstate and ETSU have a series dating all the way back to 2009. ETSU leads the series 9-0-1 and has primarily served as the host for the matchup. The last time the Spartans played the Bucs was during the 2019 season which resulted in a 0-0 tie in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Players to Watch
After Cora Brendle's impressive performances last week against both Davidson and Appalachian State she earned Big South Co-Defensive Player of Week honors. Brendle has one shutout and one combined shutout under her belt as well as 14 saves. Dara Russo has also proved to be a threat in her freshman season. Russo has started two of the three games Upstate has played, totaling 194 minutes, has taken nine shots, and scored her first career goal on Tuesday.
Last Match
Upstate most recently collected its first win of the 2022 season with a 3-0 win over Hampton. Natasha Ferreira got the Spartans going with her first career goal in the 33rd minute of play. Campbell Gibson scored her first goal of the season in the 61st minute to extend the Spartans' lead while Dara Russo notched her first career goal in the 63rd minute of the match to put the nail in the coffin for the Pirates.
ETSU most recently got its first draw as they tied 0-0 with fellow Big South opponent, Presbyterian College, on Wednesday night. The Bucs fired eight shots compared to the Blue Hoes' 11 while having two saves compared to the Blue Hoes' four.
UP Next for the Spartans
After Upstate competes in its last of the four-game home stand, the Spartans will hit the road to play The Citadel on Friday, Sept. 2nd, Furman on Thursday, Sept. 8th, VMI on Saturday, Sept. 17th, and High Point on Wednesday, Sept. 21st.
