SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Improvement is key.
While not the exact result the Spartans were hoping for, Upstate will certainly take a tie against ETSU being dealt several tough losses in the first month of the season.
Game Information
Score: Upstate 0 | ETSU 0
Records: Upstate (0-3-1, Big South 0-0-0) | ETSU (3-1-1, SoCon 0-0-0)
Location: County University Soccer Stadium
How it Happened
While the score makes it sound like an uneventful, defensive slugfest there were still moments where the dam nearly broke.
The Spartans took 8 shots to ETSU's 18, but were highly efficient with them, landing half of them on the net. ETSU had the same number of shots on goal, but Luca blanked the Buccaneers.
4' -Freshman
Braiden Hall tried to follow up his performance against South Carolina with an early shot on goal, but just couldn't find the mark in this match.
26' –
Julian Fernandez was the next Spartan to notch an attempt on the goal, rocketing a shot to the bottom left of the net. ETSU's goalie was forced to make a play on the ball to deny the attempt.
46' – The next two attempts for Upstate came from
Xavi Wences. He took a shot to the left of the net, but it cracked against the woodwork before being deflected away
53' – Wences rips another shot from outside the box but a great play from the goalkeeper takes it away
86' – In the twilight of the match, Upstate nearly walks it off with a great shot from Marcus Waern. Marcus deflects the ball up to the right of the net but it misses by inches, bouncing off of the post.

- This was Upstate's fourth different starting lineup in four matches
