SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On the Road Again
 
The USC Upstate Spartans are back on the road after a brief home visit. They're travelling to Atlanta to take on the Georgia State Panthers Tuesday night.
 
Series History
Upstate and Georgia State have faced each other since the 1980's, with Georgia State leading the all time series 7-3-1. Most of those meetings have come in Upstate's D-1 era, with the Panthers holding the edge in those meetings 6-0-1.
 
Last Match
The Spartans are coming off of a damp tie with ETSU in the 2022 home opener. They'll be going inside the Panther's den to face off with a Georgia State squad that is undefeated on the season, going 4-0-1 on the season. They beat another Spartanburg team, Wofford, 2-0 in their last match.
 
Players to Watch
True freshman Kasper Jorgensen has become one of the stalwarts on the Upstate defensive front. The 6'3 Danish defender has started all four matches this season, playing the full 90 in two of them and 89 in another. Marcus Waern, another freshman, has been earning more playing time each match this season and is coming off of his first start against ETSU. He also nearly recorded the walk off goal to break the tie, but it banged off the top right post. Braiden Hall wasn't able to record his second career goal against ETSU, but he had a good opportunity early in the match. Sophomore Carson Hickok has seen an elevated role this year after playing in six matches as a freshman in 2021. He's started every match this season and is in line to be a consistent contributor for the rest of the year.
 
UP Next for the Spartans
 After the 7:00 meeting with the Panthers, the Spartans will return to Spartanburg, but not for a home match. The Wofford Terriers will be hosting Saturday's 7:00 match.
