Men's Soccer Travels Down the Road for Away Match at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Almost feels like home

The USC Upstate Spartans will be back in Spartanburg this weekend but will not be playing with home field advantage. They'll be making a trip down the road to play the Wofford Terriers Saturday night at 7.

The MatchUP
Who: Wofford (2-4-0, 0-0-0 SoCon) vs USC Upstate (0-4-1, 0-0-0 Big South)
Where: Snyder Field, Spartanburg, S.C.
When: 7:00, Sept. 17, 2022

Series History
The Spartans and Terriers haven't played as often as you might think considering the two share the same city. The two teams have squared off a total of twelve times since 2008, with Wofford taking ten of those meetings. Upstate has found success against the Terriers recently though, walking away victorious in two of the last three battles.

Last Match
Upstate is fresh off a tough, hard fought loss in Atlanta with undefeated Georgia State. The Spartans had several good opportunities throughout the match thanks to the play of Kasper Jorgensen and Braiden Hall but couldn't finish the shots off before Georgia State snuck one through in the 83' minute.

Wofford is also coming off a loss to Presbyterian. Both teams had some offensive fireworks, but it was the Blue Hose who walked away with the 3-2 win.

The Six Degrees
Wofford and Upstate have shared one opponent so far this season: Georgia State. The Terriers took on the Panthers last Saturday and fell in a wet 2-0 match. Upstate lost to the Panthers 1-0 this Tuesday.
The Spartans had 3 SOG on 9 shots total in their 1-0 loss while Wofford had 18 total shots with 7 of them being on target in a 2-0 loss.

In their match with Wofford, Georgia State fired only 4 shots through the full 90 with only two of those being on goal but both found their mark. Upstate forced the Panthers to take uncomfortable shots throughout the night, resulting in only 3 of their 15 being on target.

Players to Watch
Braiden Hall continues to be a Spartan to keep an eye on. He's tallied a shot on goal in the last three matches. Andrin Zumbuhl had Upstate's first SOG of the night against Georgia State off a long pass from Felipe Marty. Kasper Jorgensen showed off impressive footwork and ball skills to fire a pass across field to Braiden Hall for one of his shots of the night. Marcus Wærn seems to have worked himself into the starting lineup as he has started two matches in a row now, tallying 109 total minutes through the two contests. Julian Fernandez has started every match so far this season and is one of the veteran contributors on the roster.

UP Next for the Spartans
After the "road" match with Wofford, the Spartans will have their second home game of the season when they host the College of Charleston Cougars next Tuesday.
