Series History
USC Upstate and VMI have only played four matches, dating from 2011-2014. Upstate leads the series with a spotless 4-0 record. The Spartans have scored seven goals compared to the Keydets' three. Their most recent match was in 2014 when the Spartans won 1-0 in Lexington, Va.
Players to Watch
Freshman Dara Russo earned the first Big South honor of her career as she was named the Freshman of the Week on Monday afternoon. Russo played a massive role in Upstate's first ever win over Furman, as she scored her second goal of the season and her first ever game winning goal. Along with Russo, freshman Margret Edda Bjarnadottir showed out during the match with Furman as she scored her first career goal in the form of a right-footed free kick from 20-yards out to give Upstate the 1-0 lead in the first half. Cora Brendle recorded her sixth straight start against Furman as well as recording five saves.
Last Match
Upstate most recently traveled to Greenville, S.C. where the Spartans downed the Paladins for the first time in program history with a 2-1 win on Thursday (9/8) night. Russo and Bjarnadottir both chipped in a goal to give Upstate the 2-0 lead; the Paladins were able to squeak one in before the final whistle but nonetheless the whistle blew for an Upstate victory.
VMI most recently tied LIU 2-2 on Saturday afternoon in Brookeville. The Keydets took a 1-0 lead going into half time and had the 2-0 lead by the 57th minute, however, LIU battled back to finish out the game 2-2. Morgan Hornig scored her first goal of the season while Riley Boucher notched her second.

Following the game against VMI, Upstate will begin Big South Conference play starting with High Point on September 21st at 7:00 p.m. in High Point, N.C.
