Spartans Come Home to Host the Final Race of the Regular Season Via the Upstate Invite on Saturday Morning

Event Preview

USC Upstate cross country comes home to host the final cross country meet of the season at Milliken Research Center on Saturday morning. With 662 athletes entered to compete, this is the largest field of teams that Upstate has seen set to compete in the Upstate Invite.

Most recently the Spartans competed in the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic. The men's cross country team was led by Nigel Dos Santos for the second race this season. Dos Santos was able to achieve a 64th place finish with his new personal best of 25:47.5. The women's team was led by Heaven Bennett for the second race this season, crossing the finish line with a time of 20:00.8 for a 171st place finish. Gabby Sanchez took 12 seconds off her time and set a new personal record of 21:52.6.

During last year's Upstate Invite, the men finished fifth out of 13 competing teams. Dos Santos finished 27th with a time of 26:10.1 Monroe Thompkins, Sam Shimanskiy, and Jared Keklak all were able to secure top 50 finishes as well. The women came out with a ninth place finish last season at the Upstate Invite.

After Upstate hosts the Upstate Invite, the Spartans will turn their attention to the Big South Cross Country Championships in Salem, Va. on Sunday, October 29th.
