Event Preview

USC Upstate cross country gears up to compete in the 2023 Big South Cross Country Championships hosted by Radford in Salem, Virginia.

Most recently the Spartans competed in the annual Upstate Invite at Milliken Research Center. The men's team finished 14th overall with Nigel Dos Santos leading the pack for the third race this season. Dos Santos finished in 46th with a new personal record of 25:37.4. Carter Sexton and Mason Parish also had a good performance, bringing in two new personal records respectively. The women were able to achieve a 24th place finish overall with Heaven Bennett leading the pack for the third time this season. Gabby Sanchez, Alanie Foster, and Adalie Harrison all crossed the finish line with new personal bests.

During last year's Big South Cross Country Championships, the men's team finished fifth. Monroe Thompkins finished just shy of a top 20 finish, coming in at 21st with a personal best of 25:56.0. The ladies finished fourth which is the highest finish USC Upstate has achieved since joining the Big South in 2018 as well as tied the highest finish since becoming a Division I program. Heaven Bennett cracked the top 15 with a time of 18:20.3, earning herself a spot on the All-Conference Second Team.

Following the Big South Cross Country Championship, Upstate will prepare to host the NCAA Southeast Regionals at Milliken Research Center on Friday, November 10th.
