GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Spartans are returning home after taking a 2-0 loss to the Furman Paladins in Greenville Tuesday night.  

The night got off to a poor start for the Spartans with a penalty kick awarded to the home team in the first two minutes of the match. Furman capitalized and took a 1-0 lead.  

The Spartans would end the first half winning the shots battle but the Paladins extended their lead early in the second half.  

Upstate would be led offensively by Braiden Hall, who took three shot and put on on goal. Dario Stadler and Anthony Cox were the only other Spartans to take more than a shot in the match.

24' - Fabian Dietrich nearly comes away with a goal, sniping a shot from distance but it goes just high of the crossbar 

48' - The Paladins add to their lead, picking up what would be the final goal of the night 

77' - Braiden Hall puts a shot on target, forcing the Paladin keeper to make a play 

81' - Anthony Cox takes the final shot of the match 

Notable 

• Anthony Cox, Guy Ellis, Jeremy Montero, and Adrian Panaite played the full 90 minutes in the match.  

• Braiden Hall led the team in shots with three. The sophomore has eight shots over his last two matches 

• Noah Kump picked up three saves in his first career start

A pivotal Big South matchup is on the horizon as the Spartans host the Presbyterian Blue Hose Saturday as part of a double header with the Upstate women's soccer team. The men's game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. while the women's team takes on Radford.
