CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Another season opening meet and another Big South accolade for the Spartans as Keyandre Davis was named the Big South's Male Field Athlete of The Week following a performance at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kick Off which saw him throw his way into Big South history. Â
Davis broke the Upstate school record in the weight throw en route to a first-place finish in the event thanks to a throw of 20.20 meters, a mark which surpassed Tony Auguste's Big South championship winning throw of 20.13M in 2022. That throw also stands as the sixth best in Big South history and is the furthest since the 2018 season. Â
After solid marks of 17.28m and 17.89m, the sophomore thrower fouled out on his fourth attempt before rallying and shattering his personal record with an 18.47M throw on his fifth. With one more throw left on the day, Davis dug deep and launched the winning throw 20.20M, which currently stands as the sixth best mark in the country. Â
The field athlete of the week award is Davis's second career Big South accolade as he was named the Men's Freshman of the Week last indoor season. Â
Davis was one of two Spartan throwers to find themselves in the conference's all-time performance list following the season-opening meet, as Rachel Davis's school-record breaking throw of 18.70m stands as the seventh-furthest attempt in the women's weight throw in Big South History. Â
