Overview:
Upstate most recently went 2-1 in the series against Stetson last week to shift its record to 20-3. The Spartans and the Bulldogs have a series dating back to 2014 when Upstate won 8-0 and 15-0 in the first doubleheader against S.C. State. Overall, the Spartans lead the series 12-0 with all previous games played at Cyrill Stadium. Most recently, the 2022 season brought back-to-back wins in five innings for Upstate (8-0, 11-1). The Spartans have a total of 124 runs over the Bulldogs and average 10.33 runs
Players to Watch:
USC Upstate: This past week, Upstate saw Tiffany Domingue hit her seventh home run of the season against the Stetson Hatters. Pitchers Alyssa Kelly and Maddie Drerup also recorded two complete games and finished the weekend with one win each. Domingue leads the Spartans offense with 21 runs, 27 hits, five doubles, seven homeruns, 19 RBI, and 53 total bases along with a .380 batting average and a .746 slugging percentage.
After the first month of season, Upstate sits first amongst Big South competitors with a 20-3 overall record with Presbyterian behind them with a 17-5 record. The Spartans lead the conference in batting (.319 avg.), pitching (1.23 ERA), and fielding (.975%). Kelly leads the conference with a 0.66 ERA while Maddie Drerup also sits in the top five with a 1.77 ERA. Casey Goguts leads the conference in fielding with 86 putouts and a 1.000% percentage.
Nationally, Upstate is ranked fifth for stolen bases per game (3.17), sixth for ERA (1.23), 15th for win/loss percentage (.870), 27th for batting average (.319), 29th for fielding percentage (.975), 36th for slugging percentage (.496), tied 42nd for strikeout to walk ratio (3.00) and 46th for homeruns per game (0.96).
S.C. State: The Bulldogs were at Cyrill Stadium earlier this year for the Spartan Classic where they fell to George Mason (10-1), Holy Cross (2-0), and UMES (4-2). S.C. State goes into the mid-week contest with a 1-12 record. Pitcher Destiny Calloway holds S.C. State's one win on the season as well as a 2.90 ERA. Calloway also helps to lead the team's offense with three runs, eight hits, one double, two homeruns, six RBI, and 15 total bases. Taylor Ames-Alexander also helps lead the Bulldogs with six runs, eight hits, three doubles, one homerun, three RBI, and 14 total bases.

Following the mid-week match up against South Carolina State, Upstate will commence Big South conference play starting with Charleston Southern at home on Friday (2:00 p.m./ 4:00 p.m.) and Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
