
Upstate Softball falls to Longwood in the weekend series finale

FARMVILLE, Va. - Taking the field for Sunday afternoon action, USC Upstate Softball faced off against Longwood for game three of the weekend series where the Lancers avoided a series sweep with a 10-1 final. Â

The Lancers opened the bottom of the first with a five-run inning, riding the momentum from five hits and an fielding error. The Lancers followed with two home runs in the second inning and a two-RBI single in the third. Following a two-RBI double in the next inning, Upstate added their lone run from a fielding error by Longwood. The Spartans were not allowed a hit through five innings and reached base from four walks, one hit by pitch and a fielding error. Wrapping up the finale, USC Upstate officially takes the series, 2-1 and moves to 22-14 overall (5-1 Big South).Â

Following a weekend away from Hub City, Upstate Softball will return preparing for their next weekend series in Big South play, hosting Gardner-Webb University on Friday, April 3 for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 P.M. Eastern with Game Two to follow at 5:00 P.M. Eastern. Game three will follow on Saturday, April 4th on the national stage at 4:00 P.M. Eastern as Game Three is slated to be aired on ESPNU marking the sixth consecutive appearance and marks the second meeting on ESPNU between the two programs.  Â
