Overview: 

Upstate most recently swept S.C. State 8-0 in both games of the double-header on Wednesday. The Spartans extended their win streak over the Bulldogs to 14-0 and advanced their overall record to 22-3 going into the first Big South series of the season. Upstate leads the series 20-3 overall against Charleston Southern with a 5-1 record at home, 12-2 record on the road, and a 7-2 record in conference action. Most recently the Spartans beat the Bucs 3-0 during the first day of the 2022 Big South Softball Championship. During the 2022 regular season, Upstate won the series 2-1 with a 9-0 and a 10-2 during the double-header.   

Players to Watch:   

USC Upstate: The Spartans enter the series with a 22-3 record after beating S.C. in double-header on Wednesday. Alanna Deal had a stellar performance on Wednesday as she walked away with three runs, three hits, and eight RBI after a home run in game one and her first career grand slam in game two. Both Maddie Drerup and Alyssa Kelly threw complete games and finished the day with additional wins on the season.  

Going into the first Big South series of the season, Upstate sits atop Big South standings with a 22-3 overall record with Presbyterian behind them with a 17-6 record. The Spartans lead the conference in batting (.324 avg.), pitching (1.15 ERA), and fielding (.975%). Kelly leads the conference with a 0.62 ERA while Maddie Drerup also sits in the top five with a 1.64 ERA. Casey Goguts leads the conference in fielding with 96 putouts and a 1.000% percentage.  

Nationally, Upstate is ranked fifth for stolen bases per game (3.16), fifth for ERA (1.15), 10th for win/loss percentage (.880), 24th for batting average (.324), 31st for fielding percentage (.975), 31st for slugging percentage (.514), 44th for scoring (5.64), and 47th for strikeout to walk ratio (3.00). 

Charleston Southern: CSU enters the series with a 9-13 overall record, with its most recent games being a double-header against Ohio State. Against the Buckeyes, the Bucs fell 2-1 in a nine-inning game and then fell 13-2 in game two of the double-header. Annah Junge has primarily occupied the circle for Charleston Southern with 13 game appearances, 11 starts, 11 complete games, 68 strikeouts, and an 8-3 record. Ashley Meckley leads the Bucs' offense with 10 runs, 19 hits, three doubles, four RBI, 22 total bases, and nine stolen bases. Meckley sits with a .292 batting average, a .338 slugging percentage, and a .356 on base percentage.
