Overview:

Upstate finished the USF Bulls Invitational Tournament with a 3-2 record with wins over Kansas, Army, and Rhode Island. The Spartans have a series history against Stetson that dates back to 2009 when Upstate downed the Hatters in a double-header (7-4; 5-4). Upstate goes into the three-game series riding a three-game win streak over Stetson with 6-0 and 7-2 wins in the 2022 season and a 9-6 win back in 2020. Overall, Upstate leads the series 23-9 with an 11-5 record on the road, a 10-4 record at Cyrill Stadium, and a 2-0 record at neutral venues. Against the Hatters, Upstate has 166 total runs and averages roughly 5.19 runs per game.

Players to Watch:

USC Upstate: Upstate's success at the USF Tournament can be attributed in part to junior pitcher, Alyssa Kelly. Kelly started the week with a 6-2 win over Western Carolina, before picking up a 3-0 win over Kansas and a 4-3 win over Rhode Island. After throwing her eighth complete game of the season, she not only improved her record to 11-1 but also collected back-to-back Big South Pitcher of the Week honors.

Casey Goguts also had a stellar week with four runs, seven hits, three RBI, one sac hit, one double, one homerun and two stolen bases. Along with a .438 batting average, a .527 on base percentage, and a .688 slugging percentage, Goguts had 27 putouts, two assists, and no errors. Tiffany Domingue leads the Spartans offense with 20 runs, 25 hits, four doubles, six homeruns, 16 RBI, and 47 total bases along with a .413 batting average and a .717 slugging percentage.

Stetson: Stetson enters the three-game series with Upstate with a 15-8 overall record after one mid-week game this week against Holy Cross. Against the Crusaders, the Hatters finished with a 6-1 win which included runs from six different players. Hannah Marien earned her fifth win of the season to advance to a 5-2 record on the season as well as reach 49 strikeouts and a 1.12 ERA. Kami Eppley helps lead the Hatters' offense with a .423 batting average, 14 runs, 30 hits, two doubles, two triples, one homerun, seven RBI, and 39 total bases.

UP NEXT FOR THE SPARTANS

After the three-game series with Stetson, Upstate will host South Carolina State in a mid-week double header, with game times set for 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. before starting Big South conference play with Charleston Southern at home on Friday and Saturday.

Alumni Reunion Weekend

The reunion weekend will be highlighted by a special presentation following the Upstate vs. Stetson contest on Saturday, March 11.  First pitch is tentatively set for 1:00 p.m. The postgame presentation is one former players of head coach Chris Hawkins will not want to miss. Following the presentation there will be dinner, music and an Alumni Game. If you plan to attend, please let us know here.
