Overview: 

USC Upstate most recently finished its Big South series against the Winthrop Eagles with a 3-0 shutout win on Wednesday night. Prior to Wednesday night's win, Upstate took a break from Big South play and went against the Wolfpack of N.C. State on Tuesday. In the game against the Wolfpack Upstate showed a solid performance but fell 2-0 due to a homerun from the Wolfpack. Radford also took some time this week to step away from Big South opponents to play UNC Greensboro which resulted in a double-header split (2-8, 5-4). Upstate leads the overall series against the Highlanders 12-1 with the one loss being at Cyrill Stadium, back in the 2021 season.  

Players to Watch:   

USC Upstate: Casey Goguts helped lift the Spartans to victory over the Eagles on Wednesday night with her eighth homerun of the season which brought in the final two runs. Maddie Drerup also threw her 10th complete game in the form of her fourth career shutout.  

Upstate sits near the top of the conference standings for batting (.293 avg.) while leading in pitching (1.63 ERA) and fielding (.969%). Kelly leads the conference with a 1.20 ERA while Maddie Drerup sits fifth with a 1.93 ERA. Mady Lanoux is ranked third for fielding with 133 putouts and a .993 fielding percentage. Goguts (3rd) is also ranking for hitting along with Lauer (11th), Tiffany Domingue (19th) and Peyton Darnell (20th). 

Nationally, Upstate is ranked eighth for ERA (1.63), seventh for stolen bases per game (2.57), 44th for win/loss percentage (.690), and 51st for slugging percentage (.454). Denver Lauer leads the team with 29 stolen bases and with those 29 stolen bases, Lauer has earned a seventh-place national ranking as well as a 13th place national ranking for stolen bases per game (0.69). Kelly also finds herself in national rankings, coming in at fifth for innings pitched (151.2) and eighth for victories (17).  

Radford: Against the Spartans of UNC Greensboro, Laura Thompson proved to be an asset to the Highlanders with a combined two runs, three hits, and two RBI. Rachel Smith also provided support on offense with one run, three hits, and two RBI. Malorie Reeves walked way with her second win of the season in the circle after 115 pitches across 7.0 innings.
