Ty Tilson Drives Home Three, Leading a Quartet of Multi-RBI Spartans as Weather Doesn't Dampen Baseball's Offense in 10-4 Friday Victory at UNC Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – While Mother Nature may have delayed the start of USC Upstate baseball's series opener at UNC Asheville, the weather couldn't dampen the Spartans' offense as Upstate plated 10 runs on 10 hits to improve upon its best start to conference play in the Division I era (2007-pres.) with a 10-4 win Friday evening.

The Spartans started the scoring early with a run in the first before the Bulldogs fought back with two in the home half of the inning to take the lead. Upstate hung its first crooked number on the scoreboard with three in the third to retake the lead for good, adding another four in the fifth, one in the sixth, and one in the ninth to secure the win.

Continuing as a run producer over the last five games for the Spartans, redshirt sophomore leftfielder Ty Tilson pushed his streak of games with an RBI to five as he tied a career-high with three RBI Friday. He was one of four Spartans with a multi-RBI game with redshirt junior shortstop Troy Hamilton, redshirt junior rightfielder Daniel Gernon, and redshirt junior catcher David Pereira all driving in two runs apiece.

On the mound, redshirt junior right-hander Reese Dutton picked up his sixth win of the season behind his team-lead-tying fifth quality start—equaling the total of Saturday's starter junior left-hander Henry Proger—of the season, going 6.0 innings for the win. Tossing the final three innings, sophomore lefty Al Holguin earned a three-inning save, the first save of his season and the second of his career.
