David Pereira Hits His Third Homer of the Year and Collects Second Straight Multi-RBI Game, But Baseball Drops Game Two of Series at UNC Asheville with 9-4 Saturday Decision

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After battling back to take the opening game of its weekend series and entering Saturday with a chance to earn a series victory, USC Upstate baseball fell on the short end of game two with UNC Asheville, falling 9-4 Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans fought back and attempted another comeback in game two of the series, using an RBI double in the fourth and a three-run homer in the fifth to dig into the Bulldogs' lead. However, Upstate couldn't overcome a four-spot by Asheville to answer the team's run in the fourth, allowing the Bulldogs to pull away and even the series.

Picking up his second multi-RBI game of the weekend, redshirt junior catcher David Pereira launched his third homer of the year with a three-run shot in the fifth inning, giving him five RBI in the series. His three RBI tie his career-high while marking his third three-RBI game of the season. Securing the Spartans' lone multi-hit game, sophomore third baseman Cole Caruso collected a pair of hits, going 2-for-3 while reaching base three times on the afternoon.

  • B5: After a leadoff double, Asheville used a pair of flyouts to plate a run with the second a sac fly from Reece pushing across the tally.
  • B7: The Bulldogs tacked on another run as Reece hit a solo homer to leftfield.
