Players to Watch
USC Upstate retained nine of its 11 starters from last season including 2023 Big South Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year, Cora Brendle, 2023 Big South Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Dara Russo, and Preseason All-Conference selection Ashley Finn. Coach Saber returns a total of 20 Spartans from the 2022 season, while adding five freshman and four transfers (Rutgers, Longwood, St. John's, Northwestern State University of Louisiana).
College of Charleston retained all of its starters from last year and returned its entire roster from the 2022 season. Head coach Christian Mincher also added freshman to the 2023 roster. Returners, Grace Powell and Shae Yocum found themselves earning CAA Preseason honorable mentions last week leading up to the 2023 season.
Last Match
Upstate started the 2023 season with two exhibition matches; the first at home against UNC Greensboro and the second on the road against Elon.
Similar to Upstate, the College of Charleston started the season on the road against UNC before it went back home to Mt. Pleasant to host The Citadel.
UP Next for the Spartans
Upstate continues its road stint with a trip to Virginia to take on the Pirates of Hampton University, Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
