Players to Watch
If a newcomer to the Spartan program is on the field, you'll probably want to keep an eye on them. Three of Upstate's four goals on the year belong to freshmen (Adrian Panaite, Ezra Hoffman, Max Edwards) while nine of the eleven points on the season are from newcomers. Cooper Jennings has picked up back-to-back starts with double digit saves which hadn't happened before in the program's DI history.
For the Flames, both Luke Eberle and Michael Huss have been highly efficient this season as the pair of seniors have combined for six goals on eight shots on goal through five matches. The two picked up a goal each against Longwood in Liberty's 3-1 victory. In the net, Liberty has given solid minutes to Blake Franzen and Owen Moore, but it was the former who earned the start and win against the Lancers last time out.
Last Match Out
The Spartans are coming off the first victory over the Georgia State Panthers in program history, which came in the fashion of a 1-0 home shutout. Max Edwards picked up the game winning goal in the 16th minute while Cooper Jennings denied a penalty kick in the 20th to preserve the shutout.
The Flames are coming off a 3-1 victory over the Longwood Lancers. The Lancers cut into Liberty's 2-0 lead early in the second half, but a Luke Eberle penalty goal secured the victory for Liberty.
UP Next for The Spartans
The Spartans will have a week off to prepare before they open the Big South slate with a trip to High Point, September 23.
