Spartans Take the Long Trip to Mississippi to Play Jackson State in Monday Afternoon Match Up

Players to Watch  

Nya Baccelli and Dara Russo continue to lead Upstate's offense with three goals apiece. Baccelli has earned eight points so far this season with her three goals, two assists, 13 shots, and eight shots on goal. Russo is just behind her with seven points after recording one assist, 21 shots, 13 shots on goal, and one game winning goal. Cora Brendle continues to be the Spartans' final line of defense as she has started all seven games and has 20 saves on the season. 

Jackson State sits with a 1-5-0 record with its one win being against Nicholls back on Sept. 1st. Six Tigers have scored this season: Terrell, Bennett, Blackwood, Fonua, Thompson, and Uehara. Kendyl Terrell leads the Tigers with one goal, one assist, three points, 18 shots, six shots on goal, and one game winning goal.  

Last Match    

Upstate most recently took the trip to Tennessee to play ETSU on Thursday night and walked away with a 0-0 draw. Savannah Noll led Upstate's offense with two shots on goal with help from Russo who also tallied two shots. On defense, Hailey Sapinoro and Catarina Bastos played the full 90 minutes in the Spartans' backline as did Brendle who recorded one save.  

Jackson State is scheduled to play McNeese State on Saturday, Sept. 16th at 1:00 p.m. Most recently, the Tigers suffered a 1-0 loss to Southeastern Louisiana University on Sept. 10th. A goal from SLU in the 28th minute would be the deciding factor and shift Jackson State's overall record to 1-5-0. The Tigers trailed in shot (23-10), shots on goal (11-5), and corner kicks (6-1), but led in saves (10-5). Kiana Tulloch led the Tigers offense with three shots and two shots on goal while on defense, Jordan Hamilton racked up five saves and Rebecca Jamieson collected three.  

     
 
UP Next for the Spartans   
After the trip to Jackson, Miss. Upstate will begin Big South play at County University Soccer Stadium hosting the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville on Saturday, Sept. 23rd at 1:00 p.m.
