Spartans Earn a Point in Big South Play After 1-1 Draw with Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The Spartans led the Winthrop Eagles for 88:30 minutes of the match but a late goal by the home team forced the 1-1 tie.  

The Spartans were awarded a penalty kick in the 3rd minute after Dzenan Cerimagic was taken down in the box by an Eagle defender. Braiden Hall capitalized on the attempt to find the Spartan's only goal of the match.  

A rather quiet match unfolded in the 85 minutes following, until the Eagles found the back of the net with a little over a minute to go. Both teams escape the 1-1 draw with a point in conference play.

53' - The Spartans take the first shot of the half. The two teams would combine for only eight shots total over the final 45 

88' - Winthrop finds the back of the net to tie the match

  • The Spartans and Eagles have battled to back-to-back 1-1 draws in Rock Hill 

  • Braiden Hall earned his second goal of the season 

  • The Spartans capitalized on their second penalty try of the season 

  • Braiden Hall and Jeremy Montero were the only Spartans to take more than one shot on the night. The two have combined for 49 of Upstate's 96 shots this season and 25 of the 46 shots on goal
