SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Coming off a fall season that provided the program a chance to turn opportunity into familiarity and set USC Upstate men's and women's golf up for success in its respective championship seasons, both programs and head coach
Todd Lawton are excited to announce its spring slate for the 2023-24 season.
Built to prepare both programs for the Big South Golf Championship, the Spartans' impending slate again balances familiarity with opportunity. The women's schedule features six total events, including the Big South Women's Golf Championship, with each event returning to the team's schedule in 2024 with the Spartans having success at each event in previous seasons. The men's slate features five total events, including the Big South Men's Golf Championship, and blends a pair of returning events with two new events ahead of the league championship.
For the fourth straight season, women's golf opens its spring campaign in the Sunshine State, opening the third consecutive campaign at the Sea Best Intercollegiate at San Jose, a tournament the Spartans finished runner-up at in 2021-22. The two-day event tees off from San Jose Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla. from Feb. 12-13.
Closing the month of February the Spartans return to the South Carolina Lowcountry, returning to the RiverTowne Invitational for the second consecutive season. Upstate seeks to build upon its fifth-place finish last season from Feb. 26-27 at RiverTowne Country Club in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
Staying in the Lowcountry and opening the month of March, Upstate faces the Low Country Intercollegiate from March 15-17 at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The Spartans finished runner-up at the event in both 2020-21 and 2021-22 and are competing at the event for the fourth straight season.
After seeing the event fall off the team's schedule last season, the Spartans head to the Bay Point Classic on March 21-24 looking to defend the team's championship from the 2021-22 season. The event tees off from the Bay Point Golf Club in Panama City, Fla.
Closing out the team's preparations for the Big South Women's Golf Championship, Upstate seeks to defend another team tournament championship as it returns to the Golfweek Invitational for the first time since winning the event during the 2020-21 season. The event tees off from Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawleys Island, S.C. from April 1-3.
Men's golf sees a familiar open to its spring season as it returns to the Sea Best Invitational for the 12
th straight season as the event tees off from Jan. 29-30. The tournament provides an opportunity to compete at the historic TPC Sawgrass – Dye's Valley Course in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Returning to the course in March, the Spartans face the first of two new events to the team's schedule with a trip to the Jackrabbit Invitational on March 8-9. The event marks the first tournament west of the Mississippi River since the 2018-19 season as it tees off from Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
Closing out the month of March, Upstate sees another new event on the team's schedule—though the event appeared on the program's slate during the shortened 2019-20 season)—competing at the ECU Intercollegiate. The two-day event tees off on March 18-19 from Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, N.C.
The final of the two returning events to the team's schedule and the final event ahead of the Big South Men's Golf Championship sees the Spartans trek to the Grand Strand to compete at the Golfweek Invitational from April 1-3. The event sees Upstate compete at True Blue Golf Club in Pawleys Island, S.C.
The Big South Golf Championships feature a new home in 2024 as the event transitions away from the Links at Stony Point in Greenwood, S.C., and The Patriot at the Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C. as both the men's and women's championship feature a home at the Fripp Island Golf Resort in Fripp Island, S.C. Both programs competed at the course to end the fall season as the women's championship tees off from April 14-17 and the men's championship from April 18-21.
