Women's Soccer Defeats High Point, Picking Up Their Second Conference Win of the Season

Spartanburg, S.C. – Upstate Women's Soccer was back at home, facing the High Point Panthers for a Saturday evening matchup. The Spartans outshot the Panthers 11 to 7. Upstate would walk away with the 3 to 1 victory, earning their second conference win of the season.

The match began quickly, with High Point firing off two quick shots just minutes into play. Upstate responded minutes later, with a shot from Paige Armstrong. The next 22 minutes of play showcased the backlines, with neither team having a shot opportunity until the 30-minute mark. The first goal of the match came from the Spartans off of a penalty kick goal made by Hannah Johnson. The Panthers would later find the net off a defensive miscue, which tied the match heading into halftime.

The Spartans found the go-ahead goal 11 minutes into the second half.  Dara Russo netted her sixth goal of the season off an assist from Margret Edda Bjarnadottir. The goal by Russo made her the all-time leading scorer in the Upstate Women's Soccer record book. Goalkeeper Caitlyn Davis made two big saves in the second half, allowing Upstate to maintain the lead. The third goal of the night came from Nya Baccelli, who netted a left-footed shot off of a pass from Paige Armstrong. Palina Jordan and Dara Russo each finished the night with two shots.
