Event Preview
The Spartans head to Louisville, KY after a solid performance on their home course during the Converse Kick Off, Sept. 21. Upstate's men's cross country team achieved an eighth place team finish at the meet and saw new personal bests from Jason Heusinger, Derek Staton, and Elias Harrison. Heusinger set a new PR after he improved his previous best by four seconds while Derek Staton cut off 23 seconds from, and Elias Harrison also set a new personal best after shaving off 46 seconds from his previous PR. The women finished 11th overall in their first 6k of the season. Beth Ludwick led the women for the third consecutive race of the season and finished 23rd with a time of 23:10.14. Jordan Thornton finished behind Ludwick and nearly setting a new PR, while Grace Glassmeyer earned herself a new 6k personal best as she shaved nearly three minutes off her previous 6k record.
Last year at the Live in Lou Classic, the men finished 34th as a team and it was Carter Sexton who crossed the finish line first for the Spartans. The women finished 39th and it was Jordon Thornton who helped pace the women with a time of 20:39.9.
Next UP
Upstate will return home to Spartanburg, S.C. to host their final meet of the season before competing in the Big South Cross Country Championships, Nov. 1. The annual Upstate Invite will be held Saturday, Oct. 19 at Milliken Research Center.
